Borland
Borland License Server Download, Installation and Hosting (GUI Installer)

This page provides instructions for obtaining the Borland License Server to accompany the purchase of concurrent or named user product licenses.

All three steps have to be completed in order to run the server successfully. If you have already installed the current version of the server and need to add more licenses, go directly to the Step 3.

Step 1 - Download

The Borland License Server is a Java application that requires Sun JDK/JRE 1.4 in order to run. If the host machine does not have JDK/JRE 1.4 already installed, download the installer that includes Sun JRE 1.4 and install both the Borland License Server and the JRE. Otherwise, download the installer without the JRE.

Step 2 - Install

Select a stable server machine to install Borland License Server. To ensure high availability of licenses, select a server that is not shut down often. Also, keep in mind that network licensed applications need constant network access to the server machine and may be installed and used on computers throughout a network. Finally, please consider that once licenses are hosted (locked) to a host server machine, the licenses may not be moved to another server.

Windows Install

  1. Double-click the downloaded file Belise.exe to start the installer.
  2. Note the Host Name displayed by the installer. It will be needed to create configuration files for Borland License Server (Step 3).
Solaris, Linux Install

NOTE: In order to run Borland License Server as a service (UNIX restartable daemon), it is necessary to complete 1. and 2.

If JDK/JRE 1.4 is NOT installed on the host machine:

  1. Ensure you are running as root. The installer will warn if you are not.
  2. Ensure that a user named belise exists on host machine. The installer will warn you if the user does not exist.
  3. Run ./Belise.bin and go through the graphical installer.
  4. Note the Host Name displayed by the installer. It will be needed to create configuration files for Borland License Server (Step 3).

If JDK/JRE 1.4 is already installed on the host machine:

  1. Ensure you are running as root. The installer will warn if you are not.
  2. Ensure that a user named belise exists on host machine. The installer will warn you if the user does not exist.
  3. Ensure that folder java_home/bin has been added to the path. The installer will display the following message if path is incorrect:
"No Java virtual machine could be found from your PATH environment variable. You must install a VM prior to running this program."
  4. Run ./Belise.bin.
  5. One of the installer panels will prompt you for a JDK/JRE. Browse to the root directory of the JDK/JRE and click next. If JDK/JRE version is not 1.4, an error message is displayed.
  6. Note the Host Name displayed by the installer. It will be needed to create configuration files for Borland License Server (Step 3).

Step 3 - Host licenses and download configuration files

The process of generating configuration files is called "hosting." In order to log into the License Hosting site, you will need the login name and password provided with your License Certificate. Click this link to access the License Hosting site:
